Funeral Director Feniton

Located within Feniton, St. Andrew's church is part of the ever growing village, which consists of two areas with the more historic 'old village' and the more recent developments known as the 'new village'. The old part of the village consists of a Church of England Primary School, a local post office, St. Andrew's church and a selection of thatched homes, whilst the new area, in contrast, comprises new housing which has continued to develop since the 1960s.

Following the expansion of the village, the area has benefitted from the reopening of the local railway station, which connects it to Exeter in the west and also to the Capital, London. The church has close ties with all the local schools including Payhembury and church members are an active part of school governor meetings.

The church itself dates back to the 13th century although most of the existing architecture is actually15th century. Situated within the churchyard, St. Andrew's is made from an array of different stones and is presumed to have been plastered and lime washed originally. As with all old churches, there have been various works inside - the last being completed in 2010 following the local flood damage of 2008. Periodically, since the tower was added in the 16th century, a selection of six bells are now situated within the church building.

As part of Otter Vale Mission Community, St. Andrew's Church is fully involved in 'Life' events, which include baptism, confirmation, marriage and funerals. The vicar, whose responsibilities extend to Payhembury and Escot, offers a variety of support functions in keeping with the needs of the community.

The church has a strong and dedicated community which hosts a range of social events including that of 'Mother's Union' and bell ringers. They also provide soup lunches, 'coffee mornings' and 'teas' on various occasions within the year. The upkeep of the church's building is assisted by, 'The Friends of St. Andrew's' who hold regular, fundraising events.
