Shoobridge Funeral Services | Direct Cremations Exeter

For the last few years, celebrities have dominated the headlines for choosing humble departures, a far cry from the fame they knew in their lives.
This, along with changes that Covid inflicted upon the funeral industry, has hastened the shift to unattended funerals. Before Covid, just 4% were Direct Cremations. This shot up to 18% in the pandemic when funeral services were restricted to six mourners. Last year, this figure settled at 14%. Between 37% and 40% of pre-planned funerals are currently are Direct & Simple Cremations.
One of the main drivers of the Direct Cremation is cost. Why pay for a funeral when a Direct is cheaper? But not being able to say goodbye can be, according to professional grief counsellors, detrimental to the bereavement process.
We are in a unique position at Shoobridge Funeral Services; we cater for almost all budgets and wishes. We carryout Direct funerals but we also offer our own private chapel for a simple farewell. Talk to us about how we can work with you to plan the right goodbye.
“Just put me in a cardboard box” – said so often but what do your family and friends want or need??
We provide free bereavement support from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday (see top of page), where you can talk confidentially to one of our qualified bereavement counsellors.
