Celebrant Led Funerals
Shoobridge Funeral Services very proudly works with a qualified funeral ‘Civil Celebrant’ personally chosen to ensure that our families are represented in the best possible way.
It is extremely important to us personally and also as a consideration to our clients that we carefully select the appropriate people with the necessary requisites, empathy and skills to represent us, whilst guiding and assisting the families that we are looking after.
We consider it our responsibility to justify the trust placed in us and as such, we make every effort to align the most suitable person that we believe will help achieve the type of funeral ceremony that best suits the needs of our individual clients at the time when they need our care and guidance, the most.

Our celebrant creates beautiful ceremonies which are both a celebration of a life lived and an acknowledgement of a life lost.
They work directly with the family and friends to get to know the person who has died and write a deeply individual and intimate service.
If something wouldn’t be good enough for our own mum or grandmother, then it isn’t right for anyone else’s.
Our celebrant is experienced in religious and non-religious ceremonies, or sometimes a blend of both. Sometimes, people feel that traditional religious ceremonies have lost their power and impact, and they want, instead, something different which reflects the life of the person who has died. It does not, however, have to mean a choice between religion or humanism, but rather finding a place where they can unite.
“I feel very blessed to be a celebrant. When I am asked to take a funeral, I see it as taking on a pastoral role, the role of minister to that family, to be with them for the next few weeks at a raw time, guiding and supporting them as they plan this important ceremony.”
“The best part of my job is going to visit a family to sit with them and start thinking about the ceremony. Before I arrive, I cast aside my own cares and prepare to be absorbed by another life. It is like entering a book; it is an escape into someone else’s story. And, while we are planning the music and readings and format, I get to hear all about the life of the person who has died. I never take for granted how privileged I am to be sitting there in this family’s inner sanctuary, trusted with their intimate, loving memories.”
Our celebrant leads a variety of funerals including at our private chapel, natural burial grounds, the beach, cemeteries and local crematoria. Sometimes, it is a traditional service with a packed chapel, full of people singing hymns; other times, it will be an intimate gathering of two or three, sitting together in peace and quiet. They enjoy crafting the right words to fit the occasion.

I love working with families to draw out the essence of the person we are celebrating. Starting with a blank piece of paper, we work together to create just the right ceremony.”
A Civil Funeral is Defined as...
'A funeral, which is driven by the wishes, beliefs and values of the deceased and their family, not by the beliefs or ideology of the person conducting the funeral.'
Shoobridge Funeral Services Civil Funeral Celebrant provides a highly professional service and does NOT promote any particular faith or belief system - their only concern is in providing the funeral ceremony that you, the client, desires, to the highest quality and standards.
Our celebrant meets and accommodates the needs of our clients. Services can be written and delivered by family representatives and/or friends or, the ceremony can be arranged, constructed and delivered in its entirety by the celebrant or, a combination of both.
Although the ceremony is not conducted by a formal religious minister, families CAN have religious content from ANY religion (or several religions) so hymns and prayers are often included unlike a Humanist led ceremony.
Our celebrant will meet with and discuss all the options with the family or the deceased's representative at their convenience whilst gathering information to personalise the service as the family wishes.
Other family and friends may be contacted, with the client's permission, for additional information in order to build a complete picture of the deceased person.
Our celebrant will advise and confirm the order and content of the ceremony with the client before delivering it on the day of the funeral. A full copy of the service will normally be provided, on request, after the service.
They will work in partnership with you, with us, and everyone involved in the funeral process to ensure that everything runs smoothly, easing the burden placed on our clients.
